A resource for intentional family building.
Adoption - Surrogacy - And More
What Famally is
Famally is a space for people who become parents without giving birth.
We built Famally for you with the resources, provider directory, and honest guidance that adoption, surrogacy, and foster care families actually need.
Most parenting spaces start at pregnancy. If that's not your story, you already know how isolating that feels.
The apps, the books, the online communities have all been built around trimesters, birth plans, and postpartum recovery. They're valuable for the families they serve. But for the people who come to parenthood through adoption, surrogacy, or foster care, those spaces can feel like walking into a room where everyone else got a different invitation.
We built it because these paths are extraordinary and also complex, expensive, and full of decisions that are nearly impossible to make without the full picture. The adoption, surrogacy, and foster care industries are not always transparent. Costs are buried. Timelines shift. Hard questions go unanswered. And families are expected to figure it out on their own.
We believe transparency creates better outcomes for parents, and for the children who join their families.
Famally offers a vetted service provider directory, in-depth guides, honest education, and a growing community all built around the journeys that mainstream parenting spaces overlook. Whether you're just beginning to explore your options or already deep in the process, we're here to make sure you're informed, equipped, and never feel like an outsider again.
Famally is still building.
We're building this resource alongside the community it's meant to serve, which means some sections are sparse, some guides are still being written, and the directory is growing one trusted provider at a time. We'd rather be honest about what exists than pretend we have all the answers.
Here's how you can shape what gets built:

Our Values
We believe every family deserves the truth, the support, and the resources to build ethically and stay whole.
Visibility makes these paths more ethical, and less lonely.
Secrecy is how harm builds. The more visible adoption, surrogacy, and foster care become, the harder it is for unethical practices to survive. Visibility also connects us. It lets us talk about what's hard, learn from each other, and make sure we're doing right by everyone involved. Telling the truth about these paths isn't just storytelling, it's protection, and it's how none of us have to do this alone.Wanting a child doesn't entitle you to one.
Adoption, surrogacy, and fostering are not shortcuts around infertility or workarounds to biology. They involve other people's lives, histories, and losses. We start from that truth, not from our own longing. The triad is not balanced, and pretending it is helps no one.
The relationship between parent, child, and birth family carries structural power imbalances. Ethical parenting means naming that imbalance honestly, not smoothing it over for our own comfort.Being chosen doesn't mean being perfect.
Adoptive, surrogacy-built, and foster families often feel pressure to prove they deserve their child. We reject that pressure. Imperfection is allowed here.Honesty about your family's origin is non-negotiable.
Your child's story belongs to them. We believe in raising kids who know the truth of how their family came to be, told at the right time, in the right way, without shame or secrecy.Every family structure counts.
Single parents, LGBTQ+ parents, kinship caregivers, blended families, transracial families. If you're raising a child through a path other than birth, you belong here.We hold space for faith and for none.
Some of our families pray. Some don't. Both are welcome, and neither is the default. We say the hard thing.
We won't sanitize adoption, surrogacy, or foster care to make anyone more comfortable. Informed people make better parents, and informed parents need the full picture.

The Paths of Famally
-
Adoption is emotional, paperwork-heavy, and filled with waiting and uncertainty while navigating home studies, profiles, agency relationships, legal steps, and often a relationship with a child’s birth family. Questions about ethics, communication, preparation, and what happens after placement are never addresses by most parenting resources.
Famally helps adoptive parents understand what to expect at every stage and connects them with experienced, ethical providers who understand open adoption, birth family relationships, and the realities of this path.
-
Foster parenting asks families to step into uncertainty with enormous compassion. There are state systems, trainings, case workers, court dates, reunification goals, and the emotional complexity of caring for children whose futures may not be fully known.
Famally offers guidance and resources for foster parents and those pursuing foster to adopt, helping them find support from providers who understand trauma-informed care, system navigation, and the emotional weight of this role.
-
Surrogacy involves medical systems, legal agreements, financial planning, and a deeply personal relationship between intended parents and a gestational carrier. Intended parents often spend months or years navigating contracts, clinics, matching, and preparation while trying to feel connected to a pregnancy they are not physically experiencing.
Famally provides guidance for what happens before, during, and after the process and connects families with providers who understand how to support intended parents with care and respect.
When you’re going through a domestic adoption, your profile book will be one of the first ways a potential birth family learns about you. It can be intimidating to start but this guide will help you with what to focus on first.
